Extinct and Endangered animals in Costa Rica
Intro Paragraph
The topic I chose for my choice paragraph is Extinct and Endangered animals in Costa Rica. I chose this topic because I wanted to learn more about exotic species in Costa Rica and how climate change is affecting endangered species. Costa Rica is known for having some of the most exotic animals in the world but also many endangered and extinct animals. Such as The Giant Sloth, an extinct species native to Costa Rica. The Giant Sloth went extinct around 10,200 years ago. Today some amazing species are severely endangered. I wanted to learn more about one of the main contributors to endangered species in Costa Rica. I also wanted to learn about the different reasons certain species in Costa Rica went extinct. The paragraphs below are divided and organized depending on the animal and if it’s endangered or extinct.
The Giant Sloth:
The Giant sloth is an extinct animal Native to Costa Rica. Described as a massive elephant sized creatures. Some reaching 12 feet tall and 4 tons. They lived in swamps and mangrove forests. There diet consisted of tough foliage and brush. Giant Sloths were quite social creatures and travel around in large groups. Scientists believe that the Giant sloth went extinct 10,200 years ago from climate change and the arrival of humans.

Giant Sloth compared to an average human.
How the environment is effecting endangered species:
Today around the world and in Costa Rica animals are going extinct because of climate change and deforestations. Today many creatures in costa Rica are on the verge of extinction due to climate change, such as the Great Green Macaw, The Giant Anteater and Green turtle.
