Costa Rica is not a rich country as its name implies meaning rich coast but it’s also not poor. Is wealth evenly distributed throughout all social classes unlike its neighboring countries? The country's GDP is estimated to be around $134.238 billion in 2023. Costa Rica’s GDP per capita (per person) $26,300 from 2023. However, Costa Rica has a strong dependency on agriculture, less than one sixth of Costa Ricans work in the agricultural sector. The major exports are sugar and coffee from the highlands and bananas mainly produced in the Caribbean lowlands. Some of the other exports include refined petroleum, plastic products, medical instruments, cars, broadcasting equipment. Items that are not largely manufactured in Costa Rica. One of the major industries in Costa Rica is its fishing industry located mainly on the pacific coast. It focuses mainly on catching tuna and shrimp. Both shrimp and tuna are used for domestic markets and exporting. Tourism is also a major industry in Costa Rica bringing in about 1.7 billion dollars in revenue. Major companies in Costa Rica include Software developers, IT consulting firms and digital solution companies. An example of one of these firms is BAC credomatic which is a leading financial services provider in central america. Created in Nicaragua but spread throughout Central america. Farming and agricultural companies are also a big deal in Costa Rica, such as Ice & Farm Co. Which has a great reputation within the country. Costa Rica has a mixed economic system with lot’s of private freedoms but also central economic planning and government regulations. The currency in Costa Rica is the Colon (for every USD is about 507.06 CRC). Overall Costa Rica has a stable economy with sustained growth and moderate inflation. It is considered one of the most stable economies in Central America.
