The Gulf of Nicoya

The Gulf of Nicoya is an inlet that indents the west central part of the coast of Costa Rica. The inlet extends northwest for about 50 miles. As the gulf goes more north it narrows to a width of around 15 miles. The Tempisque river, the Abangres river and the Tarcoles river all empty into the gulf! The gulf also has baby islands in it such as Chirs and San Lucas, people do live actively on these islands and tend to live very long lives although it is known to be extremely warm. The Nicoya Gulf is hot year round with temperatures that typically range between 75 to 94 degrees fahrenheit. The gulf’s climate is described as a tropical savanna with areas that are subtropical and humid. The Largest town and port of many settlements is on the shore of the gulf many trades between other countries occur here. Overall the Nicoya Gulf is a key part of Costa Rican geography as many important rivers and islands surround the area.
